commercial photography question?

I decided to take my hobby to more of a job.This summer I will be surrounded by my family , who have little children! So I was wondering for someone who doesn’t have that much knowledge on being a pro/ freelance photographer.

Well I live in a small town in MI too, so don’t feel like you’re the only one. My goal is different than yours though. I would go through the Chamber of Commerce, like D L said, get a list of potential clients and contact them to find out if they are interested. Its unfortunately not going to be easy. I don’t advertise anything at all. I get all my business through friends of friends and word of mouth. If someone sees my work, I get their job. And when I get that job, it usually ends up in another job. Its not a lot of work, but its enough to keep me busy.

If you really want to, try Craigslist.com but don’t hold your breath on that one. Every discount backyard photographer has his little pitch on there for the cheapest wedding photography or whatever it is they do. I never sell myself to anyone as the cheapest photographer no matter what.

I would try maybe like second hand shops and mom and pop stores and see what kind of response you get. Where might you be in Michigan? Good Luck – BB
